Always wanted to know how an Antaris sloop is built? All sloops are built in-house. We would like to give you a glimpse of our shipyard in Woudsend and polyester factory in Zwaag by means of these photographs.
For the production of the hull, we use moulds in our polyester factory in Zwaag:
The mould is sprayed in the correct colour of gelcoatThe open mould is filled with resin and small pieces of fibreglass using a spraying machineRight after the resin and fibreglass is sprayed on the mould, all the air is rolled out of the mould with a vent rollerIt is important that the polyester has the right thickness, which is why a so-called polyester comb is used to measure whether the hull has the same thickness everywhereThen the product is laminatedWhen the product is ready, the mould can be unloaded. Air is injected between the mould and the product and the hull is lifted out of the mouldFinally, the parts are sanded and cleanedVacuum injection is used for smaller parts. Glass mats and/or glass fabrics are placed on the mould, after which the mould is closed with a counter mould.By means of vacuum or pressure -or a combination of both- the resin is then pressed into the mould.
The hulls and decks are then transported by our own means to the production hall in Woudsend. This is where the next steps in the production process of the Makma sloop are taken:
First, the boat is brought to the antifouling department. Here the hull is sanded, degreased and put in primer and antifoulingThen the technical parts are assembled in the hull, including the motor, the propeller shaft, the bilge pump, the batteries and so on.In the meantime, the synthetic teak floor and details are put into the deck and the wiring for the lighting, among other things, is installedIn the models with cabin, the interior is made to measure in the wood department and finished in the boatAfter this, the hull and deck are glued together, this is also called ‘the marriage’.After the deck and hull have been joined, the last parts are neatly sealed. The motor box and the steering console are placed and the latest technology is installedNow the boat is ready to be tested in the water. Our experienced technicians configure the latest settings and ensure that everything works as it should. This also includes a brief trial runFinally, the boat goes to the finishing department, where the boat is completely cleaned. The cushions, bimini and spray hood are also attached. All ready for delivery!
